THE BIGGEST WEEK – “The Fruitless Curse” – Mark 11:12-19

THE BIGGEST WEEK

Most of us are familiar with Jesus’ cleansing of the temple, which appears in Matthew, Mark and Luke, but we are less familiar with Jesus’ cursing of the fruitless fig. At the very least, we understand the cursing of the fruitless fig less than the cleaning of the temple. A fig tree in Judea in the month of March or April (the time of the Passover) would NOT have had figs on its branches. Jesus knows this. So why curse it? That’s what we are going to find out on Sunday as well as how this event is directly connected to the main event on Monday of Jesus’ biggest week, the cleansing of the temple.
