On Earth As In Heaven

What Does This Song Say?

Jesus, we need You now!

“On earth as in heaven,” is something that the Church has been praying for since its inception. Jesus Himself taught us to pray for the realities of heaven to come to earth and overtake the earthly reality. When Jesus was born in the flesh and in real-time on the earth, the reality of heaven came to earth. When Jesus died on the cross and rose to life again, our connection to heaven was readily available for those who believe in Jesus. When Jesus rose to the Father, the Spirit was sent to bring the realities of heaven into our own beings. Heaven indeed has come to earth. More than that it has come to us – in us.

No matter how close heaven is to earth we will constantly need the power of God to continue making this reality known to the world. We come to God through His Word, His community (the Church), and in prayer. However, we cannot manifest the Spirit. We cannot make God work. Here’s the good news – He’s always working!

We can, however, open ourselves to seeing God work. That is what this song is about – opening ourselves up to God’s moving. That is the job of a Christian, being open to the promptings of the Spirit and then using the power of the Spirit (which is in us!) to make the realities of heaven known to the world.

What are the characteristics of heaven? They are the fruit of the Spirit – the temperaments, attitudes, and actions that God told us we cannot have enough of or embody too much. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

How do we make them known? We do the work of responding to the Spirit’s promptings in our lives. This looks like praising God when we see His goodness or majesty around us, and when we don’t see His goodness around us (because it’s always there and He is always present and active). This looks like praying for revival. This looks like living as though you are free from sin and death. This looks like a yearning to be with Jesus. This looks like not being anxious or afraid when the world around us is filled with chaos and unknowns.

Be present to Jesus today. Pray. Read His Word – this is the biggest way He communicates with us. Connect with a friend and encourage them with Gospel truths.

Jesus, we need You now!

2 Chronicles 7:14

If My people who are called by My Name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Psalm 16:11

You make known to me the path of life; in Your presence there is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Matthew 6:10

Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.

1 John 4:18

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
